Richard Britton Acrylic Seascape Auction

The Vicar and congregation of a Swansea church have had a major boost to their church and church hall community restoration fund raising program thanks to a world renowned landscape and wildlife artist.

St. Barnabas Church, Waunarlwydd, have raised almost £100,000 to meet the cost of the restoration and refurbishment of both buildings and are now reaching the end of the project.

The final stage of the refurbishment has been the installation of a new central heating system that still has to be paid for explained the Vicar of Waunarlwydd, Rev. Dr. Ian Davies, “However, our endeavours have received a major fillip with the donation of a stunningly atmospheric acrylic seascape by leading British artist Richard Britton.”

Richard has been a professional artist for over thirty years, his work being exhibited by the Society of Equestrian Artists and the Society of Wildlife Artists. He works from his studio in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside and has exhibited and undertaken commissioned work for leading galleries in New York and Texas.

He has exhibited nationally and internationally and has painted endangered species in South Africa at the invitation of the Department of Nature Conservation, followed by requests to paint race horses in the Cape.

His scope extends to portraiture, landscapes, seascapes and sculpture. In his work he enjoys using a full range of media including oils, watercolours, acrylics and pastels.

Colin Hammacott, who has been co-ordinating the fund raising programme, commented, “Richard is committed to worldwide nature conservation and a number of his paintings have been used for the promotion of environmental causes, therefore we are extremely gratified that he should see fit to consider to support the efforts of a church at the heart of a Welsh village community.”

Rev. Dr. Davies said that the stunning acrylic will be put up for auction and bids of around £500 will be invited -  well below the normal price of one of Richard’s originals of this type. “We are most grateful that Richard has deemed us worthy of his support and we are both thrilled and delighted at his immense generosity and kindness.”
